Mauritanie : Décès De Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, Les Autorités Décrètent Un Deuil National De 3 Jours

L’ancien chef de l’État Sidi Mohamed Cheikh Ould Abdallahi est mort dimanche 22 novembre.

Les autorités mauritaniennes via un communiqué officiel de la présidence de la République ont décrété un deuil national de trois jours. Président de la République islamique de Mauritanie depuis le 19 avril 2007, il est renversé le 6 août 2008 à la suite d’un coup d’État militaire mené par le général Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.

Formé à l’école de Moktar Ould Daddah, Cheikh Abdallahi sera successivement ministre du Développement industriel, de la Planification et, consécration avant le coup d’État du 10 juillet 1978, ministre d’État chargé de l’Économie nationale.

Alors Ministre de l’Economie sous Moktar Ould Daddah, il sera à l’origine de la nationalisation des mines de fer et lance un projet de raffinerie de pétrole (algérien, en l’occurrence) à Nouadhibou.

Après le coup d’Etat de 1978, il s’exile à Koweït City, où il est, trois ans durant, conseiller économique au Fonds koweïtien pour le développement, avant de revenir en Mauritanie pour se voir successivement confier le ministère de l’Hydraulique, puis celui des Pêches par le colonel Maaouiya Ould Taya.

Démis de ses fonctions après un scandale aux contours obscurs, il quitte à nouveau le pays pour s’installer cette fois-ci au Niger pour le compte du Fonds koweïtien, qui le met à la disposition du gouvernement nigérien, dont il devient le conseiller. Quand il revient au pays, c’est pour participer à l’élection présidentielle de 2007 qu’il gagnegra face à l’opposant historique Ahmed Ould Daddah, avec 52,85% des suffrages exprimés.

Retour au bercail

Une fois élu, Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi engage une série d’initiatives dans le sens du renforcement de l’unité nationale. Parmi celles-ci, le rapatriement et la réinsertion de milliers de Négro-Mauritaniens exilés au Sénégal depuis 1989, en partenariat avec le Haut-Commissariat des Nations unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) et l’Etat du Sénégal.

« La Mauritanie ne se réconciliera jamais avec elle-même tant qu’une partie de ses fils continuera à souffrir d’injustice. La Mauritanie appartient à tous les Mauritaniens, qu’ils soient noirs ou blancs, maures, soninkés, wolofs, bambaras ou poulars. Alors, tous devront se retrouver sous le même toit, pour bâtir une nation forte», avait alors déclaré le président Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallah.

Officiellement, quelques 3 798 Négro-Mauritaniens sont rentrés du Sénégal, avant son renversement par un coup d’Etat dirigé par Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, aujourd’hui, sous le coup d’une enquête judiciaire.

Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallah est décédé dans la soirée de dimanche 22 novembre à la clinique privée Chiva, à Nouakchott, des suites d’une crise cardiaque. Né en 1936 à Aleg, il est mort à l’âge de 82 ans.
