Astrazeneca : La France offre le Sénégal 184 800 doses de vaccins

Le Sénégal a reçu 184.800 doses de vaccins AstraZeneca offertes par la France comme deuxième lot dans le cadre de l’initiative COVAX. Le Sénégal s’est positionné parmi les pays prioritaires qui reçoivent la deuxième livraison de COVAX, selon un communiqué transmis à sunupost.

Le communiqué précise que ce don de vaccins de la France fait également suite au sommet sur le financement des économies africaines tenu à Paris le 18 mai 2021, qui avait souligné la nécessité de mettre l’accent sur la priorité absolue du moment qui est de vaincre la pandémie et d’aider les pays africains dans ce sens. « Nous reconnaissons le rôle d’une immunisation à grande échelle contre la Covid-19 en tant que bien public mondial et nous unissons nos efforts pour veiller à un accès équitable en Afrique à des vaccins, des traitements et des moyens de diagnostic sûrs et abordables grâce au dispositif pour accélérer l’accès aux outils de lutte contre la Covid-19 (Accélérateur ACT) et à sa facilité COVAX. (…) Nous nous efforcerons d’accélérer ces efforts pour faire en sorte que l’Afrique reçoive davantage de vaccins, notamment en partageant les doses, en soutenant les garanties de marché et en favorisant le commerce tout au long de la chaîne de valeur, ainsi qu’en développant les capacités locales nécessaires à la distribution des vaccins », avaient fait part les dirigeants Africains et Français lors de ce sommet auquel avait pris le président sénégalais Macky Sall.

« Nous sommes heureux de recevoir ce deuxième lot de vaccins contre la COVID-19 à travers l’Initiative COVAX après le premier lot reçu en mars, et de voir que les efforts déployés par les autorités et les acteurs nationaux pour accompagner la riposte nationale trouvent un écho favorable auprès des partenaires au développement. Nous nous félicitons de l’appui de la France qui a offert ces doses au Sénégal, ceci est un bel exemple de solidarité. Nous saluons le leadership du Président Macky Sall et tout le gouvernement pour leur engagement afin d’accélérer les efforts de la vaccination et pour vaincre la pandémie de la COVID-19 », a souligné Silvia Danailov, Représentante de l’UNICEF au nom des partenaires institutionnels du COVAX.

«Aujourd’hui, le Sénégal bénéficie de vaccins fournis par la France au mécanisme COVAX pour poursuivre sa campagne de vaccination. La France a été l’un des premiers pays à affirmer sa volonté de donner des doses de vaccins sûrs et efficaces, homologués par l’OMS, en complément de ses contributions financières. Le Président de la République a confirmé lors du Sommet Mondial pour la Santé que la France donnerait au moins 30 millions de doses de différents vaccins d’ici la fin de l’année 2021. D’autres pays africains bénéficient aussi de ces dons français de vaccins Astra Zeneca via le dispositif COVAX. Ces dons à COVAX s’inscrivent dans le cadre de l’effort plus global de l’équipe Europe en faveur de ce mécanisme (100 millions de doses de vaccins européens seront partagées cette année) pour renforcer la solidarité vaccinale. Je salue l’engagement de l’Union Européenne et des partenaires COVAX en faveur de la santé mondiale et d’un accès équitable à la vaccination pour tous » a déclaré M. Philippe Lalliot, Ambassadeur de France au Sénégal.

 

Pour rappel, le Sénégal avait reçu un premier lot de 324.000 doses du vaccin Astra Zeneca en mars 2021, un an après la déclaration du premier cas de COVID-19. Cette première dotation de l’initiative COVAX combinée aux efforts du pays pour mobiliser d’autres vaccins a permis de lancer et de dérouler la campagne de vaccination sur l’ensemble du territoire. A la date du 2 juin 2021, quelques 454 304 personnes ont été vaccinées contre la Covid-19 sur toute l’étendue du territoire alors que le pays comptait 41 494 cas dont 40 146 guéris, 1142 décès, 205 sous traitement.

 

A noter que COVAX est un mécanisme de solidarité international mis en place au profit de pays à faible ou moyen revenu pour lutter contre la pandémie de la COVID-19. Son objectif est de permettre à tous ces pays d’avoir un accès équitable aux vaccins contre la COVID-19.
