Présidentielle Au Bénin: Patrice Talon Réélu, Dès Le Premier Tour

Patrice Talon, le chef d’Etat béninois sortant, a été très confortablement réélu dès le premier tour de l’élection présidentielle organisée dimanche, a annoncé mardi la Commission électorale.

Le scrutin s’est tenu après une semaine de manifestations parfois violentes d’opposants à Patrice Talon, un homme d’affaires élu une première fois en 2016 et qui avait alors promis de ne solliciter qu’un seul mandat. Selon la Commission électorale béninoise, il a obtenu 86,36% des suffrages exprimés, un score qui lui permet d’éviter un second tour.
Outre sa volonté de se maintenir au pouvoir, l’opposition lui reproche d’avoir modifié la Constitution pour s’assurer un contrôle total du parlement et exclure ses principaux opposants de la course à la présidence.
L’organisation américaine de défense de la démocratie Freedom House a rétrogradé le Bénin l’an dernier dans son classement mondial, de la catégorie « libre » à « partiellement libre ».
Patrice Talon était opposé à deux candidats d’opposition relativement peu connus : Alassane Soumanou, qui fut ministre du président Thomas Boni Yayi, et Corentin Kohoué.
