Assassinat de Thomas Sankara au Burkina Faso : L’ex-président Blaise Compaoré condamné à la perpétuité

L’ancien président du Burkina Faso Blaise Compaoré, a été condamné mercredi par contumace à la prison à perpétuité pour sa participation à l’assassinat de son prédécesseur Thomas Sankara, tué avec douze de ses compagnons lors d’un coup d’Etat en 1987.

tribunal militaire de Ouagadougou a rendu son jugement mercredi 6 avril, dans l’affaire des assassins présumés de l’ancien président burkinabè Thomas Sankara. Quatorze accusés comparaissaient dans ce procès, notamment l’ancien chef d’État Blaise Compaoré et Hyacinthe Kafando, son chef de la sécurité. Blaise Compaoré a été condamné à la perpétuité.

Le tribunal militaire de Ouagadougou a également condamné à la perpétuité le commandant de sa garde Hyacinthe Kafando et le général Gilbert Diendéré, un des chefs de l’armée lors du putsch de 1987.

Ce procès historique s’était ouvert en octobre 2021, 34 ans après la mort de Sankara. Blaise Compaoré, en exil à Abidjan depuis sa chute en 2014, n’a pas assisté aux audiences. Ses avocats ont dénoncé à plusieurs reprises « un procès politique » devant « une juridiction d’exception », estimant que la procédure « ne vaut rien ».

Trente ans de prison ferme étaient requis contre lui par le parquet du tribunal militaire de Ouagadougou pour « attentat à la sûreté de l’État », « recel de cadavre » et « complicité d’assassinat ».
