Ce 13 juin marque le 7e anniversaire de la journée internationale de l’albinisme. Cette maladie rare, non transmissible et héréditaire qui existe dans le monde entier, indépendamment de l’appartenance ethnique ou du genre.
L’ONU estime qu’une personne sur 20 000 vit avec ce problème de santé, qui est le plus répandu en Afrique subsaharienne. En Tanzanie, par exemple, un habitant sur 1 400 est albinos. Un peu plus qu’au Zimbabwe, qui compte une personne sur mille vivant avec cette maladie, en plus d’autres groupes ethniques d’Afrique australe.
Au Mozambique, les organisations de la société civile indiquent qu’au moins 30 000 personnes vivent avec l’albinisme.
Cette 7e édition est portée par le thème « Forts, envers et contre tout » qui a été choisi afin de montrer que les personnes atteintes d’albinisme sont capables de défier tous les obstacles du quotidien et célébrer aussi la façon dont les personnes atteintes d’albinisme dans le monde entier répondent et dépassent les attentes dans tous les domaines de la vie.
Cas du Sénégal , le pays étant un pays intertropical, reçoit des vagues de chaleur, qui perturbent la qualité de vie de ces derniers. Faute de la disponibilité des quit de protection contre les rayons solaires, les albinos reçoivent facilement des coups de soleil qui précipitent le cancer. En plus L’accès aux soins étant un fardeau, la plupart decede aux environs de 30ans.
Les problèmes liés à l’éducation et la formation empêchent l’emploibilité qui se traduit par un faible taux d’insertion professionnelle avec seulement trois albinos dans la fonction publique du Sénégal sur plus de 3.200 que compte le pays. Cette situation a pour corollaire la mendicité qui demeure le seul recours et qui aggrave le taux de cancéreux.
En outre, le déficit de la sensibilisation laisse toujours la population, dans sa grande majorité, y compris des intellectuels, dans l’ignorance de cette condition génétique. Des superstitions demeurent et vont bon train, des hérésies poussent aux sacrifices des albinos car considérés comme des objets de richesse, de guérison, de succès ou de popularité…
Dans la mise en œuvre de sa politique sociale, l’Etat du Sénégal a posé des actes allant dans le sens de régler les problèmes liés au Handicap. Mais aujourd’hui, il convient de constater que le problème reste entier pour les personnes vivant avec l’albinisme. Elles ne profitent toujours pas de ces opportunités offertes et certaines mesures ne leur sont pas adaptées et d’autres difficultés quotidienne qu’elles rencontrent ne sont pas prises en compte par les politiques publiques.
C’est pourquoi, nous demandons avec insistance la tenue d’un conseil interministériel sur la question afin d’apporter une réponse définitive à ces problèmes.
