Emmanuel Macron Va Participer Au Sommet Du G5 Sahel Ce Vendredi 9 juillet

L’information a été confirmée à RFI, le prochain sommet du G5 Sahel aura lieu ce vendredi 9 juillet en visioconférence. Emmanuel Macron participera à la rencontre. Il aura à ses côtés le président nigérien Mohamed Bazoum, qui a été convié à l’Élysée. Le président français devrait profiter de ce sommet pour préciser le futur engagement français dans la région, un mois après l’annonce de la fin progressive de l’opération Barkhane.

Un doute planait quant à sa participation mais le président français prendra bien part vendredi à ce sommet. Le dispositif sera cette fois un peu particulier : Emmanuel Macron aura à ses côtés Mohamed Bazoum. Le président nigérien, dont ce sera le premier sommet du G5 en tant que chef d’État, a en effet été convié ce jour-là à l’Élysée. Les deux hommes échangeront depuis le palais présidentiel avec leurs homologues sahéliens par visioconférence.

Ce sera certainement l’occasion pour Emmanuel Macron de préciser les contours de l’engagement futur de la France dans la région. Ce sommet intervient quasiment un mois jour pour jour après l’annonce du retrait progressif de l’opération Barkhane. L’objectif pour Paris est de diviser par deux le nombre de soldats français au Sahel d’ici janvier 2023. Cette annonce qui avait visiblement surpris certains dirigeants sahéliens, s’est faite dans un contexte de tensions.

Le président français ne cache plus en effet son exaspération quant à la situation dans certains pays. « Je suis obligé de constater que dans plusieurs États de la région, il n’y a pas eu un réengagement des décideurs pour faire revenir l’État et l’administration dans les zones qu’on libère du terrorisme militairement », avait déclaré Emmanuel Macron le mois dernier avant d’ajouter : « En responsabilité, ça n’est pas le rôle de la France de se substituer à perpétuité aux États ».
