L’opposant russe Alexeï Navalny, de retour en Russie après plusieurs mois de convalescence en Allemagne où il se remettait d’une tentative d’empoisonnement, a été arrêté dès son arrivée à l’aéroport de Moscou, dimanche 17 janvier. Le principal opposant à Vladimir Poutine a atterri à l’aéroport Cheremetievo de Moscou, peu après 18 heures dimanche 17 janvier, après avoir été dérouté de celui où il devait arriver et où l’attendaient ses partisans et la police antiémeute.

Selon des journalistes à bord, le pilote de l’avion venant de Berlin a d’abord annoncé un retard de 30 minutes en raison d’un « problème technique », avant d’indiquer que l’appareil se dirigeait vers Cheremetievo et n’atterrira pas à l’aéroport de Vnoukovo comme prévu.

Depuis que le pire ennemi du président Vladimir Poutine a annoncé, mercredi, son intention de rentrer dans son pays, les services pénitentiaires l’ont mis en garde et assuré qu’ils seraient « obligés » de l’arrêter pour avoir violé les conditions d’une peine de prison avec sursis, dont il a écopé en 2014. Selon eux, quand il était en Allemagne, Alexeï Navalny n’a pas respecté son obligation de pointer au moins deux fois par mois à l’administration pénitentiaire.

L’opposant est aussi visé depuis la fin du mois de décembre par une nouvelle enquête pour fraude. On le soupçonne d’avoir dépensé pour son usage personnel 356 millions de roubles (3,9 millions d’euros) de dons. Alexeï Navalny, 44 ans, avait balayé ces manœuvres visant, selon lui, à « l’effrayer » et appelé, au contraire, ses partisans à venir l’accueillir à l’aéroport moscovite de Vnoukovo.
