Sadek al-Mahdi avait été Premier ministre du Soudan à deux reprises: en 1966-1967, puis une seconde fois entre 1986 et le 30 juin 1989. Cette seconde fois, il a été élu par le Parlement.
Omar el-Béchir et 27 autres accusés sont actuellement jugés pour ce coup d’Etat. L’ex-autocrate risque la peine de mort.
Depuis le début de la pandémie, 16 649 cas de Covid ont été officiellement recensés au Soudan, entraînant la mort de 1 210 personnes.
