Début d’enquête au Cameroun au lendemain d’un accident qui a fait des dizaines de morts dans l’ouest du pays. Mercredi matin, 53 personnes sont décédées dans une collision entre un autobus de passagers et une camionnette transportant du carburant, dans une zone réputée pour ses nombreux virages et ravins.
Un car de 70 places de la compagnie Menoua Voyages a percuté une camionnette qui roulait en sens inverse en plein milieu de la nuit au lieu-dit Falaise de Dschang, une zone réputée dangereuse pour les conducteurs. Au moins 53 personnes ont péri dans l’incendie des deux véhicules et plusieurs blessés très graves sont également à déplorer, dont deux très jeunes enfants et un bébé de quatre mois.
« Les morts ne sont pas identifiés, ils sont tous calcinés », a déclaré lors d’un point presse Awa Fonka Augustine, gouverneur de la région de l’Ouest, évoquant également 29 blessés « très graves avec des brûlures ». Le gouverneur a ajouté que la collision pouvait « être dû au brouillard » et que la camionnette avait « un défaut de freinage », selon les premiers constats. Dans un communiqué publié dans l’après-midi, il a également affirmé que ce véhicule transportait « du carburant frelaté », donc de contrebande
