Le procès des six sages-femmes inculpées pour non-assistance à personne en danger après la mort d’Astou Sokhna à l’hôpital Amadou-Sakhir-Mbaye a repris ce matin devant le tribunal de grande instance de Louga (nord).
L’audience de mercredi dernier avait été renvoyée à ce jeudi à la suite d’une requête introduite par la partie civile, qui disait qu’elle n’avait pas eu accès au dossier.
Avant de renvoyer le procès à ce jeudi 5 mai, le tribunal avait rejeté la demande de liberté provisoire introduite par les avocats de la défense.
Les quatre sages-femmes placées sous mandat de dépôt depuis le 19 avril sont restées en prison. Deux autres avaient été inculpées et remises en liberté. Le juge a appelé six témoins à la barre du tribunal.
Six avocats assurent la défense des sages-femmes mises en cause, et quatre autres sont chargés de défendre la partie civile.
Comme la semaine dernière, de nombreuses personnes se sont rassemblées devant le tribunal de grande instance de Louga dès les premières heures de la matinée pour assister au procès. Parmi elles se trouvent de nombreux professionnels de la santé, dont certains sont venus de plusieurs régions du Sénégal pour apporter leur soutien à leurs consœurs.
La police a déployé un impressionnant dispositif sécuritaire et filtre les entrées dans l’enceinte du TGI.
Seuls les témoins, les proches de la partie civile et les journalistes ont été autorisés à entrer dans la salle d’audience.
Cette affaire judiciaire est partie du décès en couches d’Astou Sokhna, le 1er avril, à la maternité de l’hôpital Amadou-Sakhir-Mbaye de Louga.
Sa famille estime qu’une négligence du personnel de l’établissement est à l’origine de sa mort. Arrivée à l’hôpital, Astou Sokhna avait attendu pendant plusieurs heures avant de subir une césarienne.
Son époux a déposé une plainte auprès du procureur de la République de Louga pour non-assistance à personne en danger.
L’enquête policière sur la mort de son épouse a débouché sur l’inculpation de six sages-femmes et la détention préventive de quatre d’entre elles.
Les circonstances du décès de cette femme d’une trentaine d’années ont suscité une vive indignation au Sénégal.
Le ministère de la Santé a déployé une mission d’enquête administrative, qui a débouché sur des mesures conservatoires prises à l’encontre de certains employés de l’hôpital Amadou-Sakhir-Mbaye.
Le 13 avril, le directeur de cet établissement public de santé, Amadou Guèye Diouf, a été limogé et remplacé par Abdallah Guèye, un administrateur hospitalier.
Plusieurs syndicats de travailleurs de la santé ont tenu un sit-in pour dénoncer les mesures conservatoires prises à l’encontre de certains employés de l’hôpital.
Dans plusieurs régions du pays, les travailleurs ont décrété une grève générale de vingt-quatre heures en guise de protestation contre l’inculpation des sages-femmes.
