Co-fondateur de MediaSchool Marseille à ses derniers jours, son départ endeuille tout le sport business international.
Riche d’un parcours atypique, Pape Diouf était diplômé de Sciences-Po Aix-en-Provence. D’abord journaliste sportif, il endosse ensuite la casquette d’agents de joueurs. Il jouera un rôle important dans l’amélioration du management des joueurs, notamment africains, dans l’Hexagone. Lorsqu’il accepte la présidence de l’Olympique de Marseille en 2004, il travaille sans relâche pour porter haut le club.
Bien que sa mission prenne fin en 2009, Pape Diouf restera comme dans l’ombre de l’OM. Il passe à une nouvelle échelle en co-fondant MediaSchool Marseille pour outiller les jeunes au métier de journaliste. Mais le Franco-sénégalais reste très près du monde sportif. En 2012, lors d’une conférence annuelle de l’IRIS où il intervient sur les enjeux stratégiques du sport, Pape Diouf évoque la nécessité de « redéfinir la mondialisation », estimant que « la mondialisation du sport […] n’a pas servi l’Afrique », occasionnant la « fuite de talents à un âge toujours plus précoce » vers les clubs européens et appauvrissant « fortement » les championnats locaux africains.
Le président Macky Sall a « suivi de près l’état de santé de Diouf » Mort à Dakar, le président Macky Sall, sur Twitter, a salué la mémoire d’un « grand dirigeant engagé et éminence grise du football », saluant les efforts du personnel de l’Hôpital de Fann « pour le sauver ».
