Les résultat du premier tour de la présidentielle du 27 décembre au Niger seront proclamés samedi, a annoncé la Commission électorale nationale indépendante (Céni) dans un communiqué, alors que l’ancien ministre Mohamed Bazoum était largement en tête des résultats partiels publiés sur le site de la Céni.
« La proclamation des résultats globaux provisoires des élections législatives et présidentielle est reportée à demain samedi 2 janvier 2021 à 10h au Palais des congrès de Niamey », selon un communiqué diffusé vendredi. Dans la matinée, la Céni avait annoncé qu’elle proclamerait les résultats vendredi en fin de journée.
Selon les résultats sur le site de la Céni, M. Bazoum, bras droit du président sortant Mahamadou Issoufou, comptait 1,4 millions de voix, devançant l’ancien président Mahamane Ousmane (675.000 voix) soutenu par le principal opposant Hama Amadou, dont la candidature n’a pas été retenue en raison d’une condamnation par la justice.
Les deux anciens Premiers ministre Seini Oumarou et Albadé Abouba suivaient respectivement avec 345.000 voix et 260.000 voix.
Selon le site, les résultats de 225 des 266 communes du pays ont été compilés soit plus de 4 millions de voix sur les 7,4 millions d’inscrits.
Favori du scrutin, Bazoum vise une victoire au premier tour, ce qui n’est jamais arrivé dans ce pays parmi les plus pauvres du monde, habitué aux coups d’Etat et en proie à des attaques jihadistes récurrentes.
En raison des disparités de vote par région, il n’est pas possible de savoir si M. Bazoum réussira son pari face aux 29 autres prétendants dont l’ancien ministre des Affaires étrangères Ibrahim Yacouba (240.000 voix selon les résultats partiels).
Favori du scrutin, M. Bazoum, qui a bénéficié de la machine électorale de son parti et de l’Etat, a promis de mettre l’accent sur la sécurité et l’éducation, notamment des jeunes filles, dans ce pays record mondial de fécondité avec 7,6 enfants par femme.
Le président sortant Mahamadou Issoufou, 68 ans, ne se représentait pas à l’issue de ses deux mandats constitutionnels. C’est la première fois dans l’histoire du pays, qu’un président élu succédera à autre président élu.
« Cette nouvelle page de l’histoire démocratique de notre pays est un succès », a-t-il affirmé dans son allocution télévisée et radiophonique pour le Nouvel an.
Un des principaux défis du prochain président sera de juguler les attaques jihadistes qui ont fait des centaines de morts depuis 2010, et fait fuir de leurs foyers environ 500.000 réfugiés et déplacés, selon l’ONU
