USA : Ketanji Brown Jackson, première femme noire juge à la Cour suprême

Le Sénat américain a procédé jeudi 7 avril à la confirmation historique de la juge Ketanji Brown Jackson à la Cour suprême, dont elle sera la première magistrate noire. 


Tous les élus du parti démocrate et trois sénateurs républicains modérés ont voté pour faire rentrer cette brillante juriste de 51 ans dans le temple américain du droit. Cette magistrate avait été choisie fin février par le président démocrate Joe Biden qui avait promis pendant sa campagne de nommer, pour la première fois, une femme noire à la plus haute institution judiciaire du pays, vieille de 233 ans.

«C’est un jour merveilleux, un jour joyeux, un jour inspirant», a salué le chef des démocrates au Sénat Chuck Schumer. Comme pour souligner le caractère historique de cette nomination, Kamala Harris, la première femme noire à accéder à la vice-présidence des Etats-Unis, a présidé la séance de vote.
