Le village de Widou Thiengoly se situe à 350km au Nord-est de Dakar. Il est dans la région de Louga, plus précisément dans le département de Linguere, arrondissement de Yang-Yang. Il est localement administré par la commune de Tessékéré. Le Village est constitué d’un « bourg-centre » et de campements situés dans un rayon de 15km autour de ce bourg.
À Widou, la souffrance des populations atteint des sommets . Les manques en eau, en infrastructures sanitaires, scolaires et en électricité y sont devenues monnaie courante.
Pas une goutte d’eau ne coule des robinets de la maternité. Les femmes qui accouchent sont mises dans une même salle que les malades sous perfusion par exemple . Ce qui montre que le Sénégal connaît encore des retards considérables sur des choses aussi basiques et aussi élémentaires en termes de besoins primaires de santé. Les défis sont énormes en matière d’infrastructures sanitaires surtout dans le monde rural.
Le renforcement des équipements médicaux et du personnel suffisants dans le poste de santé de Widou Thiengoly est plus qu’une priorité, compte tenu du taux de prévalence très élevé d’hypertension artérielle constaté par des chercheurs de l’unité mixte internationale. Il y a un réel danger qui plane sur les usagers de ce poste de santé où, on note une progression galopante de la fréquence du diabète, de l’ulcère et des accidents vasculaires cérébraux .
Les maux dont souffrent ce village ne se limitent pas seulement à un manque d’infrastructures de santé et d’hydraulique, mais aussi dans les infrastructures éducatives.
Notre visite à l’école élémentaire Sophel Djina Ka, nous a permis de constater un manque criard du minimum requis pour permettre aux élèves de cette localité d’apprendre dans de meilleures conditions. Dans cette école, il n’y a ni tables, ni manuels scolaires encore moins un nombre suffisant de maitres. Pour combler le déficit d’enseignants, ces derniers sont obligés de faire le double flux et font même assoir les élèves à trois.
Certains habitants dénoncent le mutisme des autorités qui ne se soucient pas de leur calvaire. Ils déplorent par ailleurs la situation chaotique, qu’ils vivent et disent se sentir marginalisés par les autorités et le gouvernement.
