Burkina: Procès Sankara/ Blaise Compaoré Condamné À La Perpétuité

L’ancien président du Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaoré, a été condamné mercredi par contumace à la prison à perpétuité pour sa participation à l’assassinat de son prédécesseur Thomas Sankara. Le commandant de sa garde Hyacinthe Kafando et le général Gilbert Diendéré, un des chefs de l’armée lors du putsch de 1987, ont également écopé de la prison à vie.

Il aura fallu plusieurs années d’instruction, l’audition de plus de 110 témoins et 6 mois d’audience pour en arriver à ce jour, 34 ans après l’assassinat de Thomas Sankara. Aucune circonstance atténuante n’a été retenue pour ces trois accusés, reconnus coupables d’« atteinte à la sécurité de l’État » et « complicité d’assassinat ». Ils perdent également toutes leurs distinctions militaires.

La Cour est donc allée plus loin que ce que le parquet militaire avait requis, à savoir 30 ans de prison ferme pour Blaise Compaoré et le commandant de sa garde Hyacinthe Kafando, 20 ans seulement avait été requis pour le général Gilbert Diendéré. Huit autres accusés sont condamnés à des peines allant de trois ans à vingt ans de prison. Trois accusés, enfin, ont été acquittés.

Ce verdict a été accueilli avec un grand soulagement par les parties civiles et les proches des victimes.
