Le Département de Podor est l’un des trois départements de la région administrative de Saint-Louis. Il représente une superficie de 12.947 km² pour une population d’environ 45.000 habitants. Podor est un des départements, les mieux servi du régime de Macky Sall avec trois ministres, près de onze directeurs, quatre députés cinq Pca et pas moins de trois hauts conseillers tous originaires de la zones. Cependant, on constate qu’à l’ombre des nyms et des prosopis de certaines localités, les jeunes sirotent du thé à longueur de journée. Un paradoxe, qui s’explique par la jalousie entre les jeunes.
Être jeune et brillant ne paie pas à Podor ; car les très bons éléments ont tendance à plafonner ou, pis, à être mis d’office sur le banc de touche par d’autres jeunes proches des leaders. Un constat qui va à l’encontre des idées reçues et questionne la sincérité de la fameuse «chasse aux talents» dont ces derniers ont fait leur leitmotiv depuis quelques années.
Aujourd’hui, si certains hauts potentiels ne connaissent qu’une ascension limitée à Podor, c’est pas parce que certains jeunes cherchent à mettre les bâtons dans les roues des autres pour les empêcher de s’approcher des leaders. Mais lorsqu’on cultive bien son jardin, on ne peut que récolter de bons produits. Et quand on reconnait sa valeur et ses compétences, alors il n’ y a pas de raison d’être jaloux. D’autant plus que chacun a son destin tracé avant la naissance.
Cette rivalité entre les jeunes Podorois fait qu’aujourd’hui même les financements mis à la disposition des jeunes du département peine à être distribué aux méritants.
Cette jalousie qui n’est rien d’autre que l’expression d’un manque de confiance en soi, d’un mal être se traduisant par la peur de ne pas être assez bien, d’être rejeté(e) ou abandonné(e) serait aujourd’hui l’une des cause du taux de chômages dans le département de Podor. Et ceci, malgré les efforts consentis par les responsables et leur appel à l’unité des jeunes.
Cette jalousie fait que certains jeunes ressentent comme de l’aigreur, de la frustration, vis à vis des autres. Ce qui les pousse de plus en plus vers la violence, la colère, la convoitise mais aussi et surtout la médisance.
