Le procès des accusés de l’assassinat du Français Hervé Gourdel, un guide de haute montagne enlevé et décapité par des djihadistes en Algérie en 2014, s’est ouvert jeudi 18 février au matin à Alger, six ans après les faits.
Après un report au début du mois, le procès se déroule devant le tribunal de première instance de Dar El Beïda, dans la banlieue d’Alger, en présence de la famille de la victime, notamment de sa compagne. Il devrait durer une journée. Arrivé en ambulance, le principal accusé, Abdelmalek Hamzaoui, suspecté d’être un ravisseur, suit l’audience sur un fauteuil roulant. Il est accompagné d’une équipe médicale et surveillé par des membres des forces spéciales de la gendarmerie. Initialement prévue le 4 février, l’audience avait été reportée de deux semaines, à la demande de la défense, en raison de l’état de santé de Abdelmalek Hamzaoui.
Venue de France, la compagne d’Hervé Gourdel, Françoise Grandclaude, s’était alors dite «très déçue» mais entendant respecter la décision de la justice algérienne. Au total, 14 personnes sont poursuivies dans cette affaire : huit djihadistes présumés jugés pour son rapt et sa décapitation et six autres personnes pour non-dénonciation de crime, selon un document du tribunal consulté par l’AFP.
